Beyond Building 4 _ Design Studio

Research

Beyond Building 4 - learning and healing environments is an exploration into the entangled relations between social and architectural space within the context of learning environments. Focusing on two outer Melbourne primary schools in St Albans and Dandenong, students examined how design might effect and benefit the physical and emotional well being of primary school students.

Adopting notions of participatory architecture and user defined space, Beyond Building 4 students developed a variety of design interventions responsive to the temporal spatial relations between the built school environment and the emotional space of the primary school students.

Beyond Building 4-  learning and healing environments is the forth in a series of interior design studios initiated by Associate Professor Suzie Attiwill and Gregory Nicolau, director of the Australian Child Trauma Group.

Beyond Building 4 was run in collaboration with Raphael Kilpatrick
