Focusing on architecture, interior design, contemporary art and social practice, Campbell Drake Studio is a multi disciplinary design studio that seeks to challenge conventional interpretations of interior design and architecture through ideas led practice and research.
Adopting piano and voice as temporal and transient media, Temporal Formal is an investigative spatial performance that explores intersections between music, architecture, and history. Drawing inspiration from “24 Hours John Cage,” an event staged at Bauhaus Dessau in 2012, Temporal Formal features the performance of a selection of works by influential composers drawn from and inspired by the Bauhaus era. The performance took place in the public foyer of Grosvenor Place, a commercial tower in Sydneys central business district, designed by celebrated architect Harry Seilder.
The event offers an opportunity to engage and reposition public perception via the re-appropriation of commercial space. Through the musical renditions of Schoenberg and Glass, Temporal Formal asks the audience to make connections between music, history, and the surrounding architecture. Allowing one to experience the performance and the architectural environment simultaneously, this Bauhaus-styled happening provides an immersive moment in which a heightened spatial awareness provokes the forging of new relationships between the immediate environment, performance, and the social-cultural and historical contexts of site and place.
